Water Damage or Flood Damage? What is the difference?
Water damage is usually covered under most homeowner’s policies. A general rule of thumb is, IF the water came from within the house or from above the house it is considered a water loss.
Flood damage is usually from an outside source of water. During the monsoon season in the Phoenix area there can be sudden down pours and many homes will have water coming in under the doors or foundation. Usually this is NOT covered by your standard homeowner’s policy. This would be an event covered by the National Flood Insurance program administered by FEMA.
